Fallout: London – A Promising Mod on the Horizon

The gaming community has been eagerly anticipating Fallout: London for the past five years. This impressive mod for Fallout 4 promises to transport players to a post-apocalyptic version of England’s capital city. Set to release in a few months, the project has undergone significant development since its inception in early 2019. Led by a dedicated team of over 50 core developers and supported by more than 200 contributors, Fallout: London aims to offer players a completely new gaming experience.

Fallout: London encompasses the entirety of the capital city, from Camden to Croydon, Westminster to Hackney. In this reimagined version, iconic landmarks like Tower Bridge and the Houses of Parliament have been masterfully transformed into post-apocalyptic ruins. With a wasteland equal in size to Fallout 4’s original Commonwealth and its Far Harbor DLC combined, players will have plenty of ground to cover and explore. Every detail has been carefully considered, and players can expect to encounter quintessentially British elements such as pubs, tube stations, buses, and telephone boxes throughout their journey.

The developers behind Fallout: London, known as Team FOLON, proudly claim that the mod is already “content-complete.” Utilizing a combination of reskinned assets from the original Fallout 4 and the creation of numerous new weapons, clothing options, animations, and objects, including seven unique settlements, the team has poured their creativity into this ambitious project. However, despite their remarkable progress, the release that was originally planned for 2023 had to be pushed back to 2024.

Team FOLON cited multiple reasons for the delay, including conflicts in the region where some of the mod’s scripting team is located. Unfortunately, the global political landscape is rife with conflicts, making it difficult to pinpoint a specific location. Nevertheless, the team remains dedicated to achieving the highest level of polish and testing for Fallout: London. They acknowledge the importance of delivering a memorable experience and are actively striving to avoid any launch issues that have plagued other community or industry projects.

Fortunately, fans now have a firm date to look forward to. Fallout: London is scheduled to be released on April 24th, which aligns fittingly with St. George’s Day. This delay allows the team to conduct additional testing, ensuring that the mod meets their exacting standards. Another benefit of this new release window is its proximity to the premiere of Amazon’s highly anticipated Fallout TV show. The timing is serendipitous, enabling fans to fully immerse themselves in the Fallout universe.

Amidst speculation about Bethesda’s plans for a free “next-gen” Fallout 4 update, Team FOLON clarifies that Fallout: London will not be released alongside the update. The team acknowledges that they are unaware of the specific changes Bethesda may implement and find it prudent to maintain their independent course. By doing so, they can maintain the integrity of their vision and deliver a Fallout: London experience that stands on its own merits.

Fallout: London has emerged as an ambitious and promising mod that captures the essence of a post-apocalyptic London. With meticulous attention to detail and an expansive wasteland to explore, players can anticipate an unforgettable gaming experience. Despite the delays, the release date of April 24th offers the perfect opportunity to celebrate both the mod’s launch and the premiere of the Fallout TV show. As fans eagerly await the release, it is clear that Fallout: London has the potential to become a standout addition to the Fallout franchise.
