The Future of AMD Ryzen 9000X3D Processors: What to Expect

However, PC gamers were left wanting more as AMD did not announce the highly anticipated 3D V-cache models alongside its Ryzen 9000 chips. Despite this, rumors have surfaced suggesting that we may not have to wait long before seeing these new variants in action. According to Club386, an unnamed source at Computex hinted that AMD is planning to launch 3D V-cache equipped versions of its Ryzen 9000 processors as early as September.

Potential Release Timeline

If these rumors hold true, the three-month gap between the new architecture announcement and the introduction of the X3D variants would break previous records set by AMD. Historically, there has been a significant lag between architecture reveals and new CPU launches, with the Zen 3 and Ryzen 7 5800X3D announcements spaced 18 months apart. Given that AMD has been incorporating 64MB slices of extra L3 cache into its processors for over two years, it’s plausible that the company is strategically timing the release of the X3D CPUs to coincide with the holiday season.

Expected Lineup of Ryzen 9000X3D Models

As the initial models of the Ryzen 9000 series have already been unveiled, speculation is rife about which processors will receive the 3D V-cache treatment. It is highly likely that we will see a 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X3D, a 12-core 9900X3D, and an 8-core 9800X3D. However, the possibility of a mid-range offering such as the Ryzen 5 9600X3D cannot be ruled out. AMD has hinted at “cool differentiators” in relation to its cache technology improvements, suggesting that we may see innovative configurations in the X3D lineup.

To cater to different market segments and price points, AMD could vary the amount of 3D V-cache included in each Ryzen 9000X3D model. For instance, the flagship 9950X3D might feature enhanced L3 cache on both CCDs, while the mid-range 9600X3D could have a more modest cache upgrade. It is all speculation at this stage, as AMD has been tight-lipped about its plans, and motherboard partners have not divulged any additional details. Nevertheless, given the success of the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and the anticipated performance improvements of Zen 5 over Zen 4, it is safe to assume that AMD will continue to dominate the gaming CPU market with its Ryzen 9000X3D lineup.
