The Future of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake

Ubisoft Toronto recently announced that they will be joining forces with Ubisoft Montréal to work on the highly anticipated remake of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The Toronto studio expressed their excitement about bringing their creativity, expertise, and updated technology to refresh this beloved classic. This collaboration is seen as a significant step forward for the project, which has faced numerous challenges and delays in the past.

The Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was originally set to launch in 2021, but after a lackluster first trailer and a series of development challenges, the project was put on hold for an overhaul. The game was initially in development at Ubisoft Mumbai and Ubisoft Pune before being reassigned to Ubisoft Montréal. In May 2023, Ubisoft confirmed that the game had returned to the “conception phase” as it required significant changes in team structure, priorities, prototypes, and gameplay elements.

Interestingly, since the announcement of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, two entirely separate Prince of Persia games have been released – The Lost Crown and The Rogue Prince of Persia. The continued popularity of the series, along with the release of these new games, has only heightened the expectations and enthusiasm for the upcoming remake.

With both Ubisoft Montréal and Ubisoft Toronto now working on the Sands of Time remake, there is renewed hope for the project’s success. Ubisoft Toronto has a strong track record with titles like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Far Cry, and Watch Dogs: Legion, while Ubisoft Montréal has experience with acclaimed franchises such as Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry. The collaboration between these two studios is seen as a very promising sign for the future of the remake.

While details about the specific changes and improvements that Ubisoft Toronto will bring to The Sands of Time remake are still scarce, fans are eager to see the progress that will be made with the two studios working together. Although Ubisoft Montréal has confirmed that there will be no updates on the game for the remainder of 2023, there is cautious optimism that significant developments will be revealed in 2024 or 2025. After a long period of waiting, fans are hopeful that the overhaul of the project will ultimately result in a game that is worth the wait.
